The construction industry is no stranger to a lack of skilled labor, so in an effort to show some of our local High School Juniors and Seniors different career options, the JCBIA and JCPS put together a "Discover Construction Day!"

The mission behind Discover Construction Day was to show the students different careers available in the industry and give them an experience to take back and consider.  The Be Pro Be Proud NC truck came, which is full of simulated trades where the students could experience electrical, HVAC, truck driving, crane operating, welding, etc.

The JCBIA also reached out to members and had actual trades set up booths where students could talk with them about their businesses and careers.  Along with the trades, the students also received a presentation on jobsite safety where they were given a hard hat and safety glasses to take home--in addition to that, the students also received a presentation on the importance of a good resume, and how to answer interview questions when applying for their first job.

Overall, 160 students experienced several career options in the construction industry, and left with great alternatives to the traditional four-year degree.
